NACHRICHTEN – NEWS

The first comprehensive exhibition on news in Germany sheds light on how the news developed and our relationship to it. The focus is specifically on one key actor many people know very little about – news agencies. What has been their historical role and why do we need them today? From election results to sporting achievements and tomorrow’s weather, it has never been easier to find out what is happening in the world. All around the globe, you can access the news 24/7 anywhere. So why are people increasingly turning their backs on the news?

When asked about our own relationship to the news, we all have a different answer. Our interactive exhibition invites you to explore your own personal news habits, needs and knowledge. At the same time, it encourages us to think about what we need as a society to be well-informed now and in the future.

Guided tours take place on Sundays. We also offer guided family tours once a month. Children aged 6 to 12 may take our (animated) reporter dog Ferdinand and an accompanying booklet to explore the basics of journalism in a playful way at 18 stations.

Local Journalism Day: Workshops, Tours and Panel Discussion

In the morning, school classes can take part in the #UseTheNews news literacy initiative at the museum. In the afternoon, there will be activities for families. The day will conclude with an evening panel discussion with well-known journalists from the region on the topic of “Local reporting as a welcome alternative to the unpleasant news from around the world?”

12. March 2026
News avoidance – is avoiding the news not a solution either?

In a world full of crises, disasters, and constant updates, many (not only!) young people switch off internally and externally: they deliberately avoid the news. Many see this as a way to protect themselves from unwanted doomscrolling, stressful feelings, and constant overload. What does this “news avoidance” mean for democratic participation and social engagement In this training course for multipliers in child and youth work and social and educational work, we will take a look at these questions together and work out how professionals can address the topic with young people using media education approaches.

12. Febrary 2026
Belief, opinion, knowledge: Fake news using the example of climate change

The increasing spread of disinformation poses major challenges for schools and educational institutions. Promoting media literacy has therefore become a central educational task. Students in grade 8 and above will have the opportunity to ask questions to experts from the fields of social media, journalism, AI, and science communication. They will acquire practical knowledge and skills in dealing with fake news, disinformation, and the role of social media.
