Salvador Dalí, Aphrodisiac Telephone, Multiple, 1936: I do not understand why, when I ask for a grilled lobster in a restaurant, I am never served a cooked telephone. Thus writes the Spanish artist known for his eccentric appearance in his fictive biography. He goes on to list other bold fantasies – including an aphrodisiac telephone – that carry technical achievements to the point of absurdity. This object, also known as the Lobster Telephone, is one of Dalí’s best-known sculptures.
